Our national tennis player Zeynep Sönmez bid farewell to the tournament in the third round after being defeated by her Kazakh opponent Yulia Putintseva at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.

Our national tennis player Ms. Zeynep Sönmez, who advanced to the main draw from the qualifiers, defeated her Hungarian opponent Ms. Anna Bondar 6-2, 6-4 in 1 hour and 30 minutes in the Australian Open second-round match, becoming the first Turkish tennis player to reach the third round in Australian Open history.

Stakeholders of the TENNIS 4 ALL (Tennis for All) project, carried out under the coordination of the Turkish Tennis Federation (TTF) and supported by the European Union Erasmus+ Sports Fund, met at the "opening meeting."

At the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, our national tennis player Ms. Zeynep Sönmez, who advanced to the main draw from the qualifiers, defeated world number 11 Ms. Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, achieving one of the biggest victories of her career and inscribing her name in the second round of the tournament.

Our national tennis player Ms. Zeynep Sönmez won the battle where she faced Ms. Anastasia Gasanova in the final round of the 2026 Australian Open qualifiers with sets of 6-3, 6-2 and advanced to the main draw.

Defeating Ms. Julia Riera in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, Ms. Zeynep Sönmez advanced to the final round of the Australian Open qualifiers.

Taking the court as the No. 5 seed in the qualifiers for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, Ms. Zeynep Sönmez defeated Ms. Laura Samson and advanced to the second round.
