Historic Advance by Zeynep Sönmez at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix

Our national tennis player Zeynep Sönmez continues to capture attention with her impressive performance at the prestigious WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix tournament.

 

Starting the tournament from the qualifiers in Stuttgart, Zeynep Sönmez defeated Victoria Pohle 6-3, 6-4 in her opening match to advance to the final qualifying round. Putting forth a dominant performance in the final round against her experienced opponent Anna-Lena Friedsam, Sönmez won the match 6-4, 6-0 to secure her place in the main draw.

 

Facing a challenging match-up in the main draw, Zeynep Sönmez claimed one of the most significant victories of her career against the tournament's number 5 seed and world number 8, Jasmine Paolini. Defeating her opponent with a clear score of 6-2, 6-2 in a match that lasted just 1 hour and 15 minutes, our national tennis player achieved the first top 10 victory of her career.

 

Having advanced from the qualifiers to the second round of the main draw, Zeynep Sönmez's next opponent will be world number 25, Leylah Fernandez. The Sönmez-Fernandez match will be the second match on a schedule that will not start before 19:30 (approximately 21:30 Türkiye Time).
