Historic Victory for National Women’s Team in Lithuania

In the Billie Jean King Cup, the world championship of women's tennis, Türkiye defeated France and Sweden and finished as the leader of its group. In the promotion match to the World Group Playoffs that took place today, our national team defeated Hungary 2-0 and qualified to play in the World Group Playoffs for the first time in our history.

Today's opponent of our national team in the Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Group I, which took place in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, between 8-12 April, was Hungary.

In the opening match of the series, Ayla Aksu took to the court and defeated Amarissa Kiara Tóth 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, giving Türkiye a 1-0 lead over Hungary. In the second match of the series, Zeynep Sönmez defeated Anna Bondár 6-2, 6-2, extending the lead to 2-0. With this victory, Türkiye secured a place in the Billie Jean King Cup World Group Play-offs for the first time in our history.

Our National Women’s Team, which achieved a historic success, will compete in the Play-offs during the week of 10 November 2025 for a place in the World Group.
