Türkiye defeated its first opponent, France, 2-1 in the Billie Jean King Cup, the world championship of women’s tennis, taking place in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, from 8 to 12 April.
Our National Women’s Team, consisting of Çağla Büyükakçay, Zeynep Sönmez, İpek Öz, Ayla Aksu and Deniz Dilek, captained by Bora Gerçeker and coached by Pemra Özgen, played its opening tie against France today in the Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Group I.

In the doubles match of the tie, Çağla Büyükakçay and İpek Öz were defeated by the French duo Diane Parry and Alizé Cornet 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. Ranked No. 31 in the world, our national team closed the day with a 2-1 victory over France, the top-ranked nation in Europe/Africa Group I and currently No. 15 in the world. The team will face Sweden tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. at SEB Arena in Vilnius.
