Davis Cup Türkiye-Mexico Draw Ceremony Held
The match schedule for the Davis Cup World Group I Play-Off tie, set to take place on 1–2 February and hosted by TED Sports Club, has been officially announced.
The draw ceremony was attended by President of the Turkish Tennis Federation (TTF) Şafak Müderrisgil, Ambassador of Mexico Jose Luis Martinez y Hernandez, Tournament Referee Ahmed Abdel-Azim, along with the players and captains of both national teams.
According to the draw, the matches will commence at 12:00 on Saturday, 1 February, with singles matches featuring Ergi Kırkın vs. Alex Hernandez, followed by Yankı Erel vs. Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez.
On Sunday, 2 February, the program will resume at 11:00 with the doubles match between Cem İlkel/Mert Naci Türker and Daniel Moreno/Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez. The day will continue with singles matches, featuring Ergi Kırkın vs. Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez and Yankı Erel vs. Alex Hernandez.
TTF President Şafak Müderrisgil remarked that the Davis Cup is more than just a tennis tournament, it is a platform that strengthens international friendship and highlights the unifying power of sport. She said, “We are honored to welcome the Mexican National Team to this significant international competition. We invite all tennis enthusiasts to TED Sports Club this weekend to witness what promises to be an unforgettable contest. The tie will begin on Saturday, 1 February, with the opening ceremony followed by the first singles match at 12:00. On Sunday, 2 February, the day will start with the doubles match and continue with two singles. Our national team will be captained by Erhan Oral and includes Ergi Kırkın, Yankı Erel, Cem İlkel, Mert Naci Türker, and Atakan Karahan. The Mexican team, led by captain Adrián Contreras, features Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez, Alex Hernandez, Rafael Alfonso De Alba Valdes, Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice, and Daniel Moreno. I would like to thank all stakeholders who contributed to the organization and wish both teams the best of luck. I hope we will all experience a wonderful tournament together, in the spirit of friendship and sportsmanship.”
Ambassador of Mexico Jose Luis Martinez y Hernandez, expressed his pleasure at being part of the Davis Cup and said: “Participating in the Davis Cup is not only about competition, but also about celebrating the strong friendship between Mexico and Türkiye. Tennis is a sport that transcends borders and promotes friendship, discipline, and excellence. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Turkish Tennis Federation, its President Mr. Şafak Müderrisgil, the organizing team, and our host city Istanbul for their warm hospitality. It is a great honor to support the Mexican team, composed of Captain Adrián Contreras, Assistant Coach Sandor Martínez, and players Rodrigo Pacheco, Rafael De Alba, Alejandro Hernández, Daniel Moreno, and Eugenio González. I wish for an unforgettable event for all players and spectators, filled with passion, respect, and determination.”
Opening his remarks by welcoming the teams on behalf of the ITF, Tournament Referee Ahmed Abdel-Azim continued his speech as follows: “The Davis Cup, known as the World Cup of Tennis, was founded in 1900 and has grown to become the largest annual international team competition in the sport. In 2025, 159 nations are participating. This event is one of the 13 World Group I Play-Off ties scheduled to take place this weekend. All nations will participate to World Group I in September. Today marks the beginning of this year’s Davis Cup journey for both teams. I would like to thank the Presidents, representatives, and officials of both nations.”
