2024 Junior Billie Jean King Cup Junior & Davis Cup National Team Selection Announcement
A selection tournament will be organized during the week of 21 October to determine the athletes who will represent Turkey at the Billie Jean King Cup Junior and Davis Cup Junior Finals, to be held at Antalya Megasaray Tennis Academy between 11–17 November 2024. The planned program for selection of the team competing in the Billie Jean King Cup Junior and Davis Cup Junior Finals is outlined below.
In Section Three of Article 17, titled “Player Selection Criteria,” of the TTF National Tennis Competition Regulation;
(3) Junior Davis Cup / Junior BJK Cup (National Teams)
a) The team roster is determined, depending on the conditions at the time of the competition, using one of the following methods deemed appropriate. The objective is always to ensure that the best available players are selected for the team.
- Selection matches are held among all or some of the players.
- Players are selected according to their ranking priority as of the final roster submission date, in line with the criteria listed: 1) ATP/WTA Top 800 2) ITF Junior Top 700, 3) Tennis Europe General Ranking Top 500 4) National Age Group Rankings.
- Players are selected on the basis of documented and justified recommendations provided by the Technical Committee and TTF technical staff.
- A combination of the methods listed above is used.
Based on these statements, a selection tournament will be held among eight athletes: five players born in 2008 and 2009 who currently compete in the 16&U category (girls and boys), and three players who were selected to the national team at the TTF 16&U National Team Selection Tournament held on 3 June 2024.
*The tournament format will involve eight players being divided into two groups of four. The player with the highest ranking points will be placed in Group A, and the second-ranked player in Group B. Players ranked 3rd to 8th will be drawn by lot to determine their group placement, with the 3rd and 4th ranked athletes assigned as the second players in each group, the 5th and 6th as the third players, and the 7th and 8th as the fourth players. The top two players from each group will advance to the semifinals with cross-match pairings: A1 vs B2 and B1 vs A2. The winners of the semifinals will compete in the final, while the losing players will play a third-fourth place match. Using this method, the top four players of the team (including the fourth player as a substitute) will be selected.
*Players who meet the above criteria according to the WTA, ATP, ITF, and TE week 40 rankings are eligible to participate in the selection tournament.
Important Note:
In line with the decision of our Technical Committee, Kaan Işık Koşaner will be directly included in the Davis Cup Junior team due to his achievement as the third-place finisher in Europe. The players who finish 1st and 2nd in the selection tournament will also be included in the national team, while the winner of the 3rd–4th place match will be designated as the substitute player.
