Maria Timofeeva Becomes the Istanbul Open Champion
The singles champion of the Istanbul Open, organized by the Turkish Tennis Federation between May 4–10, 2026, at the TTF Istanbul Tennis Training Center, is Maria Timofeeva.
The singles final of the WTA 125 level tournament, which featured 76 tennis players from 19 countries, witnessed a showdown between the tournament's number 1 seed, Croatian tennis player Donna Vekić, and the number 6 seed, Uzbek player Maria Timofeeva. The final match, which attracted intense interest from tennis fans, was the scene of great excitement.
In a match that lasted 1 hour and 31 minutes, Maria Timofeeva defeated Donna Vekić—who had reached the final without dropping a single set throughout the tournament—with a score of 6-4, 6-2 to claim the championship title at the Istanbul Open. With this result, the Uzbek tennis player captured the first WTA 125 level title of her career.
At the ceremony held after the Istanbul Open singles final, the trophies were presented to the athletes by Turkish Tennis Federation President Ms. Şafak Müderrisgil and Mercedes-Benz Otomotiv Chief Executive Officer Şükrü Bekdikhan.
Plaques were also presented to individuals who contributed to the realization of the tournament. TTF Board Member Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu presented a plaque to Supervisor Damian Steiner; TTF Board Member Eda Sevaioğlu Tan to Chief Umpire Alaaddin Boyar; TTF Board Member İsmail Hakkı Kurt to Chief of Umpires Soner Sivri; TTF Board Member Ertunç Tümen to the Chair Umpire of the singles final, Jennifer Zhang; and Turkish Tennis Federation President Ms. Şafak Müderrisgil presented a plaque to Tournament Director Melis Yafe.
Holding an important place on the international tennis calendar, the Istanbul Open hosted prominent names of world tennis in Istanbul for a week, while providing tennis enthusiasts with top-tier match excitement.
