Introduction of the Documentary and Book Narrating the History of Turkish Tennis
Hosted by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Türkiye, Ms. Jill Morris, and graced by the presence of the President of the Türkiye Tennis Federation (TTF), Ms. Şafak Müderrisgil, a reception was held as part of the launch of a film and book project focusing on the history of tennis in Türkiye.
The event, held at the Embassy Residence on the evening of Tuesday, February 17, 2026, was attended by approximately 100 guests, including federation officials, representatives from the sports world, business circles, diplomats, and members of the press. The reception, which brought sports and diplomacy together, demonstrated that the relations between the two countries continue to develop in many different areas.
Emphasizing that sports serve as a strong bond that builds community spirit, discipline, and shared values between the United Kingdom and Türkiye, it was stated at the event that the sporting cooperation between the two countries is gradually strengthening through exchange programs, training camps, and international tournaments.
During the reception, Türkiye Tennis Federation President Ms. Şafak Müderrisgil expressed her thoughts as follows:
"We are building the future of Turkish tennis by embracing its roots and making its history visible."
The main focus of the reception was the unearthing of Turkish tennis history through British-Turkish relations.
At the event, a preliminary introduction of the documentary work addressing the development of the sport of tennis in Türkiye and the Turkish tennis history book was carried out. It was stated that the project, conducted by Prof. Dr. Nezih Orhon, aims to inspire the new generation of athletes and make the historical legacy of the sport of tennis visible.
During the speeches, it was also recalled that the roots of tennis in Türkiye extend back to the United Kingdom. It was highlighted that the sports legacy shared between the two countries demonstrates how sports act as a tool for unity, solidarity, and a strong social impact, going far beyond mere games and medals.
The reception concluded with a cocktail where guests had the opportunity to network and exchange views on the future of cooperation in the field of sports between Türkiye and the United Kingdom.
