A Press Meeting Was Held at the TTF Ankara Tennis Training Center
Speaking at the press meeting held at the TTF Ankara Tennis Training Center, TTF President Ms. Şafak Müderrisgil recounted the development achieved in Turkish tennis over the past year and its vision for the future.
“Spreading tennis culture to the grassroots is our biggest
goal”
President Ms. Müderrisgil emphasized that since their first
day in office, their primary goals have been to strengthen tennis culture,
spread the sport to the grassroots, and create a sustainable tennis ecosystem.
Stating that the projects carried out under the title “Türkiye Tennis Move”
were shaped in line with this goal, Ms. Müderrisgil said, “Our aim is not only
to achieve success but to make success systematic and sustainable.”
546 tennis tournaments were held in the last year
Evaluating the federation's one-year activities, Ms.
Müderrisgil announced that 546 tournaments were hosted within 2025 before the
year was even over, and this number is expected to exceed 600 by the end of the
year. Stating that Turkish tennis players won 443 medals in this period, Ms.
Müderrisgil used the expressions, “Our athletes represented our country
successfully in the international arena by obtaining 202 gold and 241 silver
medals.”
In this period, Türkiye hosted important organizations such
as the Billie Jean King Cup Junior Finals, Davis Cup Junior Finals, ITF Masters
World Championships, and Wheelchair Tennis World Championships. Additionally,
the good news was given that the Presidency Cup, organized again after a long
break, will gain international status next year.
Historic achievements in Turkish tennis
The 2024-2025 period was a year full of sporting
achievements that left a mark on Turkish tennis history.
In women's tennis, Ms. Zeynep Sönmez made history as the
first Turkish athlete to advance to the third round in singles at Wimbledon. In
wheelchair tennis, Mr. Ahmet Kaplan made us proud with his doubles runner-up
finish at Roland Garros and semi-final achievement at Wimbledon. In the juniors
category, Ms. Nil Çukurluoğlu brought great pride to Türkiye as the first
Junior Masters Champion.
Significant steps were also taken at the national team
level. The Senior Women's National Team strengthened Türkiye's presence on the
world stage by advancing to the Billie Jean King Cup World Group Play-Offs. The
16 & Under National Team showed how strong the young generation of Turkish
tennis is coming by ranking fourth in the world at the Junior Davis Cup Finals.
Tennis mobilization in 81 provinces: “Let's Go to Tennis”
project
One of the most comprehensive projects of the TTF, “Let's Go
to Tennis,” was put into implementation primarily in 11 earthquake-affected
provinces in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, and the
project is planned to expand to 81 provinces. While the project, which will
last for three years, aims to bring children and youth into tennis, it is being
turned into a model whose social impact is scientifically measured.
Ms. Müderrisgil said, “This project is not just a sports
activity; it is also an educational movement that supports social
transformation and the physical and mental development of our children.”
Local structuring with our Provincial Representatives and
Tennis Ambassadors
The Tennis Ambassadors Project, launched to increase the
local power of the federation, activates volunteers and local stakeholders in
the field of tennis in the provinces. Tennis Ambassadors, who will work
together with provincial representatives, will operate with a wider network in
2026. Ms. Müderrisgil said, “Our provincial representatives and tennis
ambassadors will be our eyes, ears, and hands in every city. We will work all
together for the popularization of tennis throughout the country.”
Sustainable support model with the Tennis Fund
The TTF President also provided information about the Tennis
Fund, which was activated with İş Portföy to ensure the sustainable development
of Turkish tennis. Ms. Müderrisgil explained that this fund was established to
support young athletes, sustain infrastructure investments, strengthen clubs,
and execute projects with financial stability in the long term.
She said, “The Tennis Fund will be an assurance for the
future of Turkish tennis. Where every investment and every contribution goes
will be tracked transparently. Thanks to this structure, we are planning not
only for today but also for tomorrow.”
Strong diplomacy in the international arena
The TTF also took significant steps in international tennis
diplomacy in the 2024–2025 period.
The Federation created a comprehensive cooperation network
on player development, coach education, tournament organization, and regional
tennis structuring by signing strategic cooperation agreements with the Tennis
Federations of Serbia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Australia.
Within the scope of the cooperation signed with Tennis
Australia (TA), a sustainable partnership is aimed in multifaceted areas such
as joint tournament organizations.
The symbol of cooperation: International Gallipoli Tennis
Tournament
One of the most special initiatives of the TTF–TA
cooperation will be the International Gallipoli Tennis Tournament, designed to
strengthen the historic ties of friendship between the two countries.
The tournament aims to build a cultural bridge through
sports by bringing together young tennis players from Türkiye and Australia.
While keeping the memory of the Gallipoli Campaign alive, the event will offer
young athletes the opportunity to compete at a Grand Slam-level facility,
Melbourne Park.
A worldwide example in equal opportunity
The TTF was appreciated at an international level not only
in sports but also in the field of social responsibility. The Federation was
cited as an example to the world in gender equality and inclusivity by winning
the Gold Award at the ITF Advantage All Awards. Ms. Müderrisgil said, “This
award is an indicator that Turkish tennis has caught up with world standards
not only on the court but also in social responsibility.”
“Tennis belongs to us all”
Thanking the tennis community, stakeholders, and sponsors at
the end of her speech, Ms. Müderrisgil concluded the meeting with these words:
"Tennis belongs to us all. We will work hand in hand,
shoulder to shoulder, to manage this sport in the best way and move it forward.
Tennis is not just a sport, it is a culture. And we will keep this culture
alive in every point of our country."
