Wheelchair Tennis Türkiye Championship Opening Ceremony Held in Çaycuma
The Wheelchair Tennis Türkiye Championship, hosted by the
Çaycuma District Governor's Office and held at the Çaycuma District Directorate
of Youth and Sports facilities from September 8-11, 2025, began with 45
participants.
Turkish Tennis Federation President Şafak Müderrisgil,
Zonguldak AK Party Deputy Ahmet Çolakoğlu, Çaycuma District Governor Adem Kaya,
Gökçebey District Governor Ruveyda Kahraman Şıktaş, Çaycuma Mayor Bülent
Kantarcı, and many guests gathered with the athletes at the opening ceremony.

Müderrisgil began her speech by wishing success to all athletes who will take
to the court in the first Türkiye Championship held since the sport became
affiliated with the Turkish Tennis Federation. "As the Turkish Tennis
Federation, we continue our work guided by the vision of ‘Tennis for Everyone’.
Ensuring equal opportunities in sports and making tennis accessible throughout
our country are among our primary goals. In this context, we view wheelchair
tennis not only as a sport but also as a powerful symbol of social awareness
and inclusivity. Our federation is taking steps to establish a supportive
system to help individuals with disabilities connect more strongly to life
through sports. We are continuing our efforts in many areas, from
infrastructure work to training programs, from facilities to sustainable
organizations. Our goal is to build a strong and sustainable wheelchair tennis
system not only for today but also for tomorrow. In this regard, we consider it
our duty to provide an environment where our athletes can showcase their
talents, develop themselves, and successfully represent our country on the
international stage. We will continue our efforts to make tennis accessible to
wider audiences in our society and to overcome barriers together," she
said.
AK Party Zonguldak Deputy Ahmet Çolakoğlu said in his
speech: “Wheelchair tennis carries deep meaning. Sport is not just a
competition, it is a source of inspiration. Hopefully, we will come together in
more comprehensive organizations in Çaycuma in the coming years. I wish all our
athletes success.”
District Governor Adem Kaya expressed his satisfaction with
the championship being held in Çaycuma and drew attention to the unifying power
of sports in overcoming barriers.
Kaya thanked all stakeholders for their contributions and
wished success to the athletes competing in the championship.
