Zeynep Sönmez eliminated in the second round of the US Open

Turkish tennis player Zeynep Sönmez was eliminated in the second round of the US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of the season, losing 2-1 to Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk. Ranked 81st in the world, Zeynep faced 27th seed Kostyuk in the second round of the US Open.

In the two-and-a-half-hour match, Zeynep lost the first set 7-5 but won the second set 7-6 to take the match to a final set. The national team player took a 3-2 lead in the final set, becoming the main draw champion at the US Open for the first time and winning the final set 6-3.
