Zeynep Sönmez Bids Farewell to the Australian Open
National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez, ranked No. 94 in the world,, competed in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian Open, entered the Australian Open directly from the main draw for the first time in her career. Sönmez was defeated by Talia Gibson in the first round and exited the tournament.
In the first round of the tournament, held in Melbourne, Sönmez faced Australia’s Talia Gibson, who entered the main draw with a wild card. Zeynep claimed the first set 6-3, against her Australian opponent by hitting 17 winners. Gibson responded by taking the second set 7-6 in a tie-break, forcing a decider. Carrying her momentum into the final set, Gibson secured a 6-1 win to advance to the second round.
